How to clean a vape
Vape devices, like smartphones, go with us everywhere—pockets, purses, cars, desks. As a result, they're constantly exposed to dirt, dust, and bacteria. If you're a vaper and haven’t yet cleaned your device, it’s time to start.
Beyond keeping your device working well, regular cleaning is also important for hygiene—especially during cold and flu seasons or when dealing with contagious viruses. In this post, we’ll walk you through the right way to clean your vape and keep your sessions fresh and safe.
Why Cleaning Your Vape Matters
A clean vape isn't just about aesthetics or performance—it’s about your health.
Your vape touches your hands and lips multiple times a day. Over time, the build-up of germs, oils, pocket lint, and e-liquid residue can affect not only the flavor and quality of your vapor but can also potentially expose you to bacteria or viruses.
How Often Should You Clean It?
- Light Clean: Every 1–2 days (mouthpiece, outside surface)
- Full Clean: Once a week
- Coil Change: Every 1–2 weeks or when you notice burnt taste
What You’ll Need
- Mild dish soap
- Warm water
- Cotton swabs or Q-tips
- Microfiber cloth or clean towel
- (Optional) Isopropyl alcohol
- Small bowl
Step-by-Step: How to Clean Your Vape
1. Wash Your Hands
Before touching your device, wash thoroughly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
2. Disassemble Your Vape
Power off your device and remove the tank, pod, or cartridge. If it has a removable battery, take that out as well.
If using a pod system: remove the pod and dispose of any remaining e-liquid.
If using a tank: unscrew the tank, remove the coil, and empty the juice.
3. Clean the Tank or Pod
- Disassemble all parts (tank, mouthpiece, glass, seals).
- Soak everything (except coils) in warm water with a few drops of dish soap.
- Gently scrub away residue with a brush or Q-tip.
- Rinse with clean water and air dry.
4. Clean the Mouthpiece
Soak in warm soapy water, rinse well, and dry thoroughly. You can also wipe it with an alcohol swab for extra sanitation.
5. Wipe Down the Device
- Dampen a microfiber cloth with soapy water (not dripping wet).
- Wipe down the exterior of the device gently.
- Use a dry Q-tip to clean around buttons and ports.
- Dry with a towel or let air dry.
6. Reassemble and Enjoy
Once everything is completely dry, reassemble your vape. Insert a fresh coil if needed, refill your e-liquid, and power it on.
Bonus Tips for Vape Hygiene
- Avoid sharing your vape with others
- Store your vape in a clean pouch or case
- Keep extra pods and coils on hand
- Regularly wipe down your vape with a microfiber cloth
Final Thoughts
Cleaning your vape is quick, easy, and one of the best ways to maintain performance and protect your health. Just like washing your hands or brushing your teeth, vape hygiene should be part of your routine.
Your device will thank you with better flavor, smoother vapor, and longer life—and your lungs (and lips) will thank you too.
Since the geekvape aegis x 200w is “water/dust/shockproof”, is it still necessary to power off and remove the batteries before cleaning the mod/device? Also, I ended up with a slight leak from my last tank which was the 5 ml Geekvape Zeus sub-ohm tank. The leak was caused after cleaning it. I misthread the glass to the lower metal piece of the tank. The part that connects the tank to the atomizer.
So my question is, besides being more careful when cleaning next time, is there any SPECIFIC guidance, instruction or advice for new users cleaning their new device and tank for the first time that may’ve not be included in the video we just finished?
Thank you very much for the information provided
I’m very impressed
This was great information! I’m very aware that my e-cigarette gets dirty, but I wasn’t aware of how it go about cleaning it other than cleaning the surface and my tank. This information is good because it tells you what you can clean and how.
